How does a Shopify referral program work in Cosmo?
A member shares their link, a friend places a first order with it, and both of them are rewarded.
Their friend places a first order
The referral counts when the friend's first order qualifies. A customer who has already ordered from you can't be claimed as a referral, and the first link a friend uses is the one that counts.

What can you set up in the referral program?
Referrals are one of the 10 ways to earn in Loyalty & Rewards. You switch the rule on and decide what each side gets.
A separate reward for each side
Set one reward for the customer who refers and another for the friend they refer, so you can weight the offer toward whichever side matters more to you.
A minimum first-order subtotal
Pay referral rewards only when the friend's first order reaches the subtotal you set, or leave it at no minimum.
Points or store credit
Referral rewards follow the program's mode: points the customer redeems for rewards, or cashback paid into their Shopify store credit.
Referral analytics and top referrers
Find any member by name, email or customer ID to see their balance, tier, referral code and full points history, and adjust points with a note. Analytics track members, points issued and redeemed, redemption rate, outstanding balance, how points were earned, referrals and your top referrers.
A launcher you style
A floating rewards button on every page opens a panel with the customer's balance, tier, ways to earn, rewards, referral link and history, without leaving the page. You set its colours, icon, position, button style and wording.

How does the referral program work?
Each member gets a referral link. When a referred friend places their first qualifying order, both the friend and the member who referred them are rewarded. Customers can't refer themselves.
When are referral rewards paid?
When the referred friend's first qualifying order is fulfilled. Both rewards, the friend's and the referring customer's, are paid then, not when the link is shared or the friend signs up.
Can the customer and their friend get different rewards?
Yes. You set the referrer's reward and the referred friend's reward separately, and you can require a minimum subtotal on the friend's first order before either is paid.
Can an existing customer be referred?
No. The referral reward is for a friend's first qualifying order, so a customer who has already ordered from your store can't be claimed by a referrer later. Customers also can't refer themselves.
Can I run loyalty as cashback instead of points?
Yes. Loyalty & Rewards runs in one of two modes: points that customers redeem for discount codes, free shipping, store credit or gift cards, or store credit (cashback) paid straight into the customer's Shopify store credit balance, which they spend at checkout.
Which plan includes the loyalty program?
Premium ($11.99 a month) and Elite ($19.99 a month). Lite ($4.99 a month) includes Customer Account only. Elite adds a Rewards tab inside the customer account, custom reward expiry and points expiry after inactivity.
