Every reward a customer earns, for orders and for actions like signing up or referring a friend, is paid straight into their Shopify store credit balance, and they spend it at checkout like any other credit. How it works
Customers earn store credit instead of points, it lands in their Shopify store credit balance, and VIP tiers can multiply what they earn on orders.
On every order, as a percentage of the order subtotal, a fixed amount per order, or an amount per dollar spent. You can also pay credit for signing up, a birthday, joining your newsletter, referring a friend and following you on social media.

Each reward is issued as Shopify's native store credit, so the balance shows on the customer's account and applies at checkout like any other credit. There are no points to convert and no reward to redeem.

VIP tiers work in cashback mode too. Each tier can multiply what customers earn on orders and pay a one-time bonus on arrival, and a member's tier never drops.

You pick one mode for the whole program. Everything else, from the ways to earn to the launcher, works the same in both.
Points are spent on a discount code, a percentage-off code, free shipping, store credit or a Shopify gift card. Cashback is already store credit, so customers spend it at checkout with nothing to redeem.
Both modes use the same 10 ways to earn, the same VIP tiers and the same rewards launcher. What changes is what a customer holds: a points balance, or money in store credit.
Points can be renamed to fit your brand. Cashback is paid in money, in your store's currency.
Each cashback credit expires 90 days after it is issued by default. On Elite you set your own expiry.
Redeeming points directly in checkout is a points-mode feature, on Shopify Plus. In cashback mode there is nothing to redeem: the credit applies at checkout on its own.
Changing mode changes how customers earn from then on. Existing point balances are not converted; they stay, and stay redeemable.
