Let customers edit their own Shopify orders with Cosmo
Cosmo adds an Edit order button to every unfulfilled order on the Shopify customer account page, so customers fix their own mistakes instead of emailing you. They change quantities, swap or add products, and update the shipping address, email or phone, then review the new total before saving.

How it works
How does self-service order editing work in Cosmo?
Switch on order editing in Cosmo's editor in Shopify admin and choose what customers can change. Below is what they can edit, how a new total is settled and what you control.
For customers
What can customers change on their Shopify order?
Every unfulfilled order on Cosmo's account page has an Edit order button. It opens one window where the customer changes an item's quantity, swaps it for another variant or any other product, removes it, or searches your store and adds new products. At least one item always stays on the order.
In the Edit order window
Raise or lower an item's quantity
Swap an item for another variant
Replace an item with any product in your store
Remove an item, which goes back into stock
Search your store and add products
Edit order on the order list and the dashboard
Emptying an order isn't an edit: that is a cancellation
Can customers change the shipping address after ordering?
Yes, until the order ships. Beside the shipping address, email and phone on the order's page, an Edit link opens that part of the same window. The address can change within the order's country, and a new email or phone is typed twice and applies to that order only, never to the customer's login.
A new shipping address in the same country
A different email for this order's updates
A different phone number, with country code
New email or phone entered twice to confirm
The account login email never changes
A per-order limit on these changes
Shipping and taxes aren't recalculated for a new address
Payment
What happens when an edit changes the order total?
Before anything is saved, the customer reviews the original total beside the new one, calculated by Shopify. If the total went up, the difference shows on the order as a balance due with a Pay now button. If it went down, the order shows a refund due, which you refund from the order in Shopify.
Original and new total side by side
Pay now for a higher total
A refund due you settle in Shopify
New items at their current price
Original discounts don't apply to new items
Shipping charges stay as they were at checkout
If prices change mid-edit, the new total is shown again before saving
Merchant controls
What can you control as the merchant?
Order editing stays off until you switch it on in Cosmo's editor in Shopify admin. Each kind of change has its own switch, so you can allow address fixes but not new products. Editing lasts until the order ships, or closes a set number of hours after the order is placed.
Your settings
One master switch, off until you turn it on
Switches for quantity, product swaps, adding and removing
Switches for address, email and phone
Edit until the order ships, or for set hours
Pay now on cash on delivery orders, on or off
Editing ends as soon as any item is fulfilled

Questions about letting customers edit Shopify orders

Can customers edit a Shopify order after checkout?
Yes. Cosmo adds an Edit order button to every unfulfilled order on the Shopify customer account page. A signed-in customer can change quantities, swap or remove items, add products, and update the shipping address, email or phone, then review the new total before saving. The change is saved to the order in Shopify, so it never reaches your inbox as a request, and you decide which changes are allowed.
Can customers edit an order after it has shipped?
No. Editing ends as soon as any item on the order is fulfilled, including a partial fulfilment, and the Edit order button disappears. If you set a time limit, editing also closes that many hours after the order was placed. If an order ships while a customer is editing it, the save is refused and Cosmo tells them the order can no longer be edited.
What happens if an edit makes the order total lower?
The order shows a refund due for the difference, and you refund it from the order page in Shopify. Cosmo doesn't issue the refund itself, so you decide how and when the money goes back. The customer sees the amount the store will refund in the review step before saving, and any item they removed goes back into stock.
Do discounts and shipping change when an order is edited?
Shipping doesn't change. The shipping charged at checkout stays on the order, and a new address must be in the same country, so shipping and taxes aren't recalculated. New items are added at their current price, and discount codes or automatic discounts from the original order don't apply to them. The review step says so and shows the exact new total before the customer saves.
Which orders can't customers edit?
Cancelled or closed orders, orders with any item fulfilled, point-of-sale orders, B2B company orders and orders Shopify itself doesn't allow to be edited. On an order that can be edited, subscription items, gift cards and products that no longer exist stay on screen but can't be changed. Customers can only edit their own orders, while signed in to their account.
Does changing the email on an order change the customer's login?
No. A new email or phone applies to that one order only, so its updates go there from then on, while the customer's account and login email stay the same. The customer types the new value twice to avoid typos, it must differ from the one on the order, and each order allows only a limited number of address, email and phone changes.
Do I need to edit my theme code?
No. Setup runs through a 4-step guided flow inside Shopify admin, and the customer account page is published from there. The loyalty program's product-page rewards widget is added as a block in the theme editor. No developer is required and no theme files are edited.
